Why are my regular or special hours not updating on Google Business Profile?

When the Dashboard Shows the New Hours but Customers Still See the Old Ones

Google Business Profile hours are customer-facing operating data, so an edit can be reviewed before it appears publicly. Google says profile edits are typically reviewed quickly but can sometimes remain pending for much longer. If the dashboard shows the submitted hours while Search or Maps still shows the old schedule, first check the edit status instead of resubmitting the same change repeatedly.

Hours are part of the conversion layer, not a cosmetic field. A profile that says closed when the phone is staffed can lose calls, while a profile that says open when nobody answers creates a poor customer experience. Our Miami GBP guide connects availability information to call and booking performance.

Use the Right Type of Hours

Main hours describe the normal weekly schedule. Special hours are for temporary changes such as holidays or one-off events, and Google currently uses them for short exceptional periods. More hours can be appropriate when a specific service has a different schedule. Choosing the wrong field can make the public profile confusing even when the edit technically saves.

  • Use main hours for the normal recurring week.
  • Use special hours for holidays and temporary exceptions.
  • Use separate hour sets when the business closes and reopens during the same day.
  • Use a temporary-closure status when the business is closed for a longer continuous period rather than trying to simulate it with many special-hour entries.

Check for Conflicting Business Information

Google can use information from the Business Profile and other sources when evaluating business data. If the website, major directory listings, booking platform, social profiles, and Business Profile all show different hours, the business has created ambiguity for both Google and customers. Bring the primary customer-facing sources into agreement before treating the issue as a platform bug.

At YSH, we also compare the hours with real call handling. If the profile is technically open until 8 PM but calls after 6 PM consistently go unanswered, the marketing system is promising availability the operation cannot deliver.

Verify the Public Result, Not Just the Edit Screen

After saving an hours change, check Search and Maps as a customer would see them. Confirm the day, opening and closing time, any split schedule, and special dates. If the edit is still pending, record the submission time and avoid stacking multiple conflicting edits. If it is explicitly rejected, make sure the schedule reflects the real business operation and use Google’s support path when the profile cannot be corrected through the normal editor.

Connect Hours to Lead Quality

For call-driven businesses, hours affect which searches turn into answered conversations. Compare call volume, missed calls, bookings, and after-hours demand before extending advertised availability. If the business wants more evening leads, fix the operational response path first.

When profile availability and lead handling need to work as one system, YSH Local SEO and Google Maps strategy connects GBP configuration with call tracking and conversion behavior.

The Hours Rule

Use the field that matches the real schedule, keep other business sources consistent, verify the public result, and never publish hours that the operation cannot actually support.
